More Projects and Galleries
Here are a few odds and ends—old projects and hobbies. In this 2024 site rehab, I’ve added about twenty photos to the photography galleries, and fifty more in these extra galleries.
I was born in a small town outside of a Missouri army base, but most of my life until 2001 was spent in southeastern Wisconsin: Milwaukee, Port Washington, Madison, and Milwaukee again. I’ve dabbled in air-cooled Volkswagens, explored a few caves and hiked here and there.
In 1992, a friend and I took my old VW beetle Sluggo on a two-week, 5000-mile excursion to New Mexico, and we were both hooked. The following year we were back out west with his girlfriend and a Jeep Wagoneer named “Bella,” bought just for the trip. In 1994 we returned for Sluggo’s last big trip: southern Utah. In 1995 it was a Moab rental Jeep named “O.J.” You get the picture—we were getting tired of driving 1500 miles just to begin a vacation.
In autumn of 2001 I moved to New Mexico, a few miles north of Santa Fe. I’ve picked up genealogy, electronic music and writing as new hobbies. I’m a bit too old to do the crazy desert stuff now, so I consider the badlands photos to be a completed set, a documentary of a wonderful dozen years or more in the “Back of Beyond.”
